How Do Diaphragm Valves Work?

In the closed position, the diaphragm seals the valve's main outlet allowing air pressure to build in the upper and lower cavities. When the solenoid is energized, air from the upper cavity is quickly exhausted reducing the air pressure in the upper cavity. This creates a pressure difference between two cavities and allows the diaphragm to be pushed up, opening the outlet of the valve and creating the pulse of air.
